Is it worth using an external graphics card over Thunderbolt 4?

I'm interested in a Thunderbolt 4 notebook. This is supposed to be faster when it comes to external graphics cards.

Now I've seen a test and the difference in performance looks like this. The Thunderbolt 4 notebook achieved 25,720 graphic points in the Firestrike benchmark. A normal one in a desktop, however, 31,100 graphic points. That is about 20% difference in performance.

Is the difference acceptable or is it already too great?

I imagine using the device as a mobile as well as a desktop replacement. You need a 13 inch Thunderbolt 4 laptop, an external graphics card and a monitor. This means that you only need 1 device instead of 2. Simply connect the small notebook for work and just plug it in and play at home.

Unfortunately, I can't tell you anything about the performance difference - especially since that should also depend on the rest of the hardware installed.

If I wanted to use a non-gaming laptop for gaming, I would prefer to use the money for an external graphics card for just under 13 euro / month https://shadow.tech/de/.
Needs a good internet connection - but with it you can easily play the latest titles on almost any device from smartphone to tablet, netboot to office computer - or perform other CPU / GPU-heavy tasks.

Maybe an alternative…

Er

I think it's just not worth it in terms of price because it is much more expensive to use an external graphics card and what you get for the price then doesn't make up for it. Had thought about it before
