In January, support for Windows 7 expires, so I need to upgrade to Windows 10. On the homepage of the brand of my computer (MSI), there are only drivers for Windows 7 and Windows 8 for my model. Would they also work on Windows 10?
Here is the link to my model and the drivers: https://de.msi.com/Laptop/support/GE70-2OC#down-driver
My laptop is almost 6 years old, but still running very fast and was also expensive. That's why I think it would be a pity if I only had to buy a new laptop because of Windows 10.
Windows 10 comes with many drivers, so it runs stably on a lot of hardware even without a manufacturer's driver. However, some special hardware is not recognized, e.g. The software modem for Intel-AMT (I thought it strange that a software modem appears in Hardware Manager, but hey.) The motherboard manufacturer or in this case Intel. Drivers for Windows 7 and 8, I have already successfully recorded.
The safest answer would be: make a backup copy of the disk with e.g. Clonezilla and try to upgrade to Windows 10. Then you know exactly if it works.
In general, you will find the drivers that you currently need for Win7 and Win8, synonymous for Win10.
If your laptop is 6 years old, this should not be a problem with the hardware you are using if you change the operating system on Win10. Would be very surprised if that would be the case.
Do a Win10 upgrade (free) as shown in the video below.
Microsoft searches for the matching drivers on its server.
That worked fine for me and many other millions of users.
It may be useful to have a LAN Internet connection. - To be on the safe side, start before starting.
Keeping it normal keeps your files, settings, and installed programs.
Older programs could get problems with Win10. - But they can be eliminated by reinstalling them in compatibility mode for Win7. That's easy on Win10.
Thank you! You seem to know it: If Windows 10 itself is looking for the drivers through updates, how many days or how many updates do I have to wait about until everything is installed?
Thank you! And how do I know if my old Windows 7 license code will work?
