Laptop hangs when resetting?

I want to reset my old laptop (bought in 2012), including secure deletion of all data. Windows 10 has this option. Only the reset is now running almost 24 hours… He shows the whole time the message: "This PC is being reset. The process takes a few minutes and your PC is then restarted." I canceled and restarted the process about 10 minutes ago, again the same picture. Something's wrong, isn't it?

Reposition the part completely. Goes faster

Yes. Make a Windows boot stick, format the hard drive and reinstall windows. If there's data you need of course make a backup. You will probably need a Linux stick for this. So you can still access everything.
