I've got some interesting logic games that require Windows XP / Vista / 7/8. My laptop has Windows 10. Can I safely install this software or not? Could I possibly get problems on my device or is that possible? It would be a pity if I could not use this interesting software anymore.
Usually it always works. Do you have to test, start in the compatibility mode.
You can just try to install the games (if applicable in compatibility mode), either it works or not - so you will not get any problems.
For some programs there are also tips in the net…
Microsoft has made sure that Windows 10 is as backwards compatible as possible to Windows 7 and 8 - they wanted to enforce the migration (by all legal and not too expensive) means. With software for these systems, I've had no problems so far (except that the download of new drivers for older hardware did not always go straight through).
In games and other software designed for Windows XP and Vista, it often happens that leftovers remain.
Software for 16-bit systems has no chance with 64-bit Windows, and often runs on 32-bit Windows if you install the 16-bit subsystem.
Software for Windows 95/98 / ME sometimes runs smoothly, sometimes requires main user or administrator privileges, and sometimes it only runs inside a virtual machine.
With more or less auwand is that. I play on my Windows 10 mill sometimes Commodre 64 games:-)
in case of doubt try to install. You can't do anything wrong. It will work or not. But if it runs under 8, it usually runs under 10.
