My laptop, which I've owned for a year, got a few damage to the display. That wasn't my fault, however, as it came off by itself. The standard guarantee is still running. Can I give it back?
No, you can only have it repaired.

You return it and have it checked, if it is a guarantee case, it will be repaired. If it is not a warranty case, then you can ask for a quote, if that is too expensive for you, you can have the device returned, if the price is right, you can have it repaired.
I'm just afraid that this will be pushed on me. However, I have never seen such damage on a laptop - the display has separated a bit from the other side at the bottom left.
