Why do console gamers think they're real gamers?

If you have never enjoyed a gaming PC or laptop, you are missing out on real gaming. Why don't console gamers understand that?

za

What kind of person are you? I have both pc and console, you can't care what others gamble on? Let me guess you look like the guy in the South Park Wow episode?

P.S.: You miss masterpieces like God of War, Uncharted etc.

no

There are emulators for masterpieces

Se

Where did they let you go from? Just something for info. Even if I mainly play on the PC today, I know where video games come from. E.g. Has a PS1 grown up the video game for now? Before that, there were consoles and the associated games, only in toy stores.

I even had the privilege of being there from the start. My first console was an Atari 2600. And at the time (80s) there were no PCs to play on. At least not for every citizen.

So don't tell such nonsense here. Gamer is gamer, no matter what platform. And only those who understand that are real gamers.

Se

That may all be true. But has nothing to do with your statement.

no

Then let yourself be ripped off annually so that you can play your 30fps games online

Se

I have rarely read such nonsense. I e.g. I've been a gamer since the 80s and also started with consoles. I mainly play on PC now, but I respect everyone who enjoys gaming. No matter which platform you paddle on. I like all gamers. Except, of course, such strange contemporaries with such strange statements.

Who says I'm a console player or value gambling online?

Also: How much do some PC games cost the same each month?

Li

If you are referring to my answer, read it now. Pay special attention to the middle section.

That probably dates from prehistoric times, at the beginning PCs were more intended for work and many were simply too stupid to use a PC, and you were considered a "nerd" if you had a PC. My parents even forbade me, I bought my 1st PC when I was 21.
Back then, consoles were just real games, or like Slot machines in arcades or pubs.
The C64 took the first step and later the Amiga.
However, this is no longer the case today, so I agree. Someone who says playing on the console is better than playing on the PC is suspect to me.

Se

By mischief I didn't mean your comment.

Ba

I also started with Atari 2600. I still have the console today. The wood look just looks too chic to sell.
The first PC-like thing I had was a Commodore 64 ^^
At some point it started with PS1 - PS4.
Only since 2002 have I had a real PC as you know it today.

Se

I still have my Atari. Actually, I drove on two tracks from 1997, so to speak. And although I have a console collection of 12 different consoles today, I almost only play with my PC. Well, now and then, I still dig out the old consoles. But more as a reminder. Today's games are too good.

And I think it's very cool that you were able to experience it right from the start. And as far as PS1 is concerned, do you share my opinion that video games have grown up since then? Just think of legendary games like, Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, Silent Hill, CoD, GTA, Metal Gear Solid, Medal of Honor etc. Most of the titles of these still have their successors today.

Ba

Oh yeah. From PS1, video games have grown up and become high quality.
I started (on PS1) with WipeOut 2097. I already played F-Zero on my brother's Super Nintendo. But the WipeOut 2097 graphic was the upper hammer in comparison. Together with Fluke's Atom Bomb soundtrack, I was so enthusiastic that I bought it from my saved pocket money.
Tried it in a big toy store and was instantly blown away.

Medal of Honor and Tenka were the first first person shooters I played on PS1.
Not to forget the first ego space game Colony Wars → epic.

Then there were such awesome games like Metal Gear Solid, Siphon Filter, Future Cop LAPD and Nightmare Creatures in the 3rd person area. The latter was a horror game with such violent jump scares that everyone conjured up a brown stripe in their underpants xD Definitely nothing for those at risk of heart attacks ^^
So many would-be horror games could still cut themselves off.

Finally, there was the first real-time strategy game I played on the PS1: Warzone 2100. There you could design your own combat units in the modular system. This feature and the story are still unparalleled today.
Oh, and there was Sim City 2000 too. I can no longer get out of nostalgia ^^

At the end of my comment the intro of Wipeout 2097 with the mentioned soundtrack.

Why don't some PC gamers understand that consoles are a legitimate alternative? Especially handhelds like the switch.

A PC certainly offers the largest selection and can theoretically achieve a significantly higher performance than all consoles. So what? You still can't play all the games on PC and high performance just makes the graphics a little nicer. If this is so ridiculously important to you, I'm honestly not sure if you deserve to call yourself a gamer.

And the price is not to be neglected either. Not everyone can afford a high-end gaming PC. Consoles are a much cheaper alternative that still allows you to play decent games.

And that's exactly what it's all about: the games. What does 8K graphics with hundreds of FPS bring if you only play rubbish on your PC. The quality of the games is much more decisive and consoles definitely do not lack high-quality titles. The poor quality of the games is also the reason why most people don't consider mobile gamers to be real gamers.

Finally, I would like to mention a comparison. A Switch Lite is actually worse than the Switch in every respect and only serves as a cheap alternative. Still, only giant idiots would come up with the idea of not calling Switch Lite players real Switch players. The same applies of course to the variation of PS4 and Xbox One. According to your logic, even PC players with a PC under your standards shouldn't even call themselves gamers.

You can support, but you don't have to. In addition, not all emulators are so far that you can play a game without errors on the PC - especially with newer consoles.

Ac

The PC can now be the most powerful "console" if you invest enough money, but a console can also be a nice thing and ensures that all players can have the same experience - simply because the game works safely on it. In addition, console games are often much better optimized, on the one hand, to work, on the other hand, because they are matched to the controller (find a good controller for N64 games) (and possibly even take advantage of its special properties). And especially Nintendo games are not unnecessarily large, which sometimes makes them run even faster (e.g. With loading times) than giant games with patches that are several gigabytes in size. And handhelds with the many buttons are much easier to play than if you would do it on your smartphone.

The good thing about consoles is that they can be a great alternative to the PC and even allow special things that are difficult or maybe not possible with a PC (or laptop) (Switch on the go, anyone?). They are not necessarily "better", but anyone who sees the PC as unbeatable number one while viewing consoles as useless is suspect to me.

"Seasonpass for life, yo!"

Te

I'm not on the side that says they are real gamers. I had a PS4 for 3 years, but it's only dusty, so I sold it again.
I mostly play online games, because you want to communicate without having someone in your headset. I'm looking for people with whom I can communicate exactly, that's not really good on a console.
On the other hand, I don't get along with the controller in 1st person play.
I often play Planetside 2 (an MMO shooter) and also wanted to play it on PS4. I held it for 15 minutes and then I hated the controls. I can't imagine that someone would prefer the mouse and keyboard on the PC.

Ac

I understand. I personally think that even a controller has certain advantages. It is difficult to emulate two analog sticks with a mouse and keyboard, and once you get used to the button layout, a controller is literally more manageable. Metroid Prime had a nice approach to a first-person shooter with motion control, but generally a PC is the better option for the FPS genre. However, this does not have to be the case with other genres.

Ac

"According to your logic, even PC players with a PC under your standards shouldn't even call themselves gamers."

Wouldn't that even mean that gamers have only been around for a short time because the PCs didn't reach this standard from the start?

Ap

I guess real gamers are always up to date. Those who don't upgrade their PC regularly lose their gamer status… Or something like that.
