There's a "Print" key on every keyboard… If you press that, the screenshot will come to your clipboard. Now you can insert in actually every program (CTRL + V) … I myself always use Paint, which is enough to insert it…

With the print button (with prt sc (possibly together with FN)) you can "photograph" the whole screen. Then you can paste the image with Ctrl + V or right-click → Paste or Edit → Paste in any program in which you can insert images (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Paint…).
