As of today, MS Office can no longer be opened on my wife's computer (yes, there's still a Win7 installation). After "Updating Office" comes "Unknown error".
So I tried to install Office 365 on my Win10 laptop, the installation stopped with the message that a file could not be downloaded.
This happens both via Wi-Fi and LAN, no firewall or virus program from a third party is installed.
Attempts to repair also fail without any indication of the cause.
Does anyone know the problem and the solution?
Which version of Office 365 is it? Is it older than 2013?
Maybe there's a problem with the Microsoft server.
In the meantime you can enter the following command in the command prompt "Ipconfig / flushdns", this will delete the cached DNS entry. If you try again afterwards, the program will probably take another, hopefully functioning server. If that doesn't help, I would wait two hours, it may be that your router or provider has also cached the DNS entry.
No, 2018
Mh, okay… Could the defective installation on the original computer also be a symptom of this?
Hm, reinstall Windows, maybe. It is also important that you install the correct version. So install the 64-bit or the 32-bit variant suitable for the operating system.
Since support has also been discontinued for Windows 7, Office 2018 may no longer work on Windows 7.
Not much more can be done there.
I do not think so. But there's a car repair function for Office 365 under Programs, which I would run once.
As I said, it can't be installed on a laptop with Win10 either, since a file is supposedly not downloadable.
Amazingly, it now works again on the Win7 laptop without my changing anything. On the other hand, it can't be installed on the Win10 laptop, despite the new, clean system.
I have no influence on the download. I log into my Microsoft account with my current system and can only install the software by clicking on "Install Ms Office" within my Microsoft account.
Works with 2 computers, with 2 it doesn't work. Apparently the problem existed before… I saw it in the Microsoft forum. But I didn't find any solutions.
But a car repair function for Office 365
I had already tried that, but brought no improvement (both the online and the offline repair. But today it suddenly worked again, apparently actually a server problem, because Office tried to update itself.
