Today for the third time.
Meanwhile, I have created an Iso DVD from Ubuntu.
I have another SSD installed in my laptop. And Ubuntu should be on the External HDD. Some people write that you should disconnect the SSD and some write that this is not a problem.
Does anyone know this and knows what it looks like?
It is not a problem that you want to install Ubuntu on a HDD. You boot, if you want to use Ubuntu, just on the HDD
The DVD.iso just burn on a stick or a CD. Connect the HDD, boot from the CD / Stick and install it on the HDD.
So it does not matter that the SSD is still in there?
That's right. The SSD can stay in it quietly. The important thing is that you change the boot order, if you want to start on Ubuntu.
Thanks, then I will test it
If you have questions, just ask. If necessary, I give a detailed description.
Just one:
One has written, I'm in the bios of UEFI on Legacy switch. Is that correct?
No. UEFI is better in this case, as the new versions of Ubuntu get along with it better.

It is not a problem to leave both hard drives connected, but it is easier for inexperienced ones if only one thing depends on what should be installed.

As long as you make sure in the installation routine that the correct disk is the same for both the installation of the system and the installation of the boot loader (GRUB), this is not a problem.
Linux Hase
Disconnect the internal HD necessarily, if you want to install Ubuntu (better Mint) persistently on an external disk or USB pen. I did not do that once and devastated the installed OS (for whatever reason) - you should spare yourself those two days of reinstalling. For Windows, the reinstallation is unfortunately very cumbersome - in Linux, this is not an issue.
With a laptop, it's very easy to click the HD - just screw on the large bottom flap and disengage the plate, which is self-explanatory when the flap is open. Only courage, the two minutes you should invest.
