I can only agree with the recommendations of the others: inexpensive, good alternatives are the current 10.2 "iPad, the current iPad Air (3rd generation) or the current iPad mini (5th generation).
You can of course also take a look around at used equipment. You can often find the 9.7 "iPad Pro from 2016 in good condition (and sometimes clearly) for less than 300 euro.
