I was thinking of the Notebook CPU i7 1165g7 which is e.g. In the current Razer Blade 13 or many other devices.
Here I would connect an external graphics card that is powerful.
Games would only be played in 4k. Would a 4 core CPU be sufficient for this? Also for future titles? I would like to use the device for a few years. 5 Should be. In addition, the graphics card can be upgraded at any time. The question is what about the CPU?
No. A 4 core is the absolute minimum for gaming. You only take it in an emergency.
In addition, the clock rate in a notebook is not kept stable. That's nothing for the future.
You are better positioned with a Ryzen 4800u, for example.
But of course the pace is also reduced there. Notebooks are not designed for this.
In a comparison it was shown that the performance in 4K games does not differ between a 4 core and an 8 core processor. I don't know what that will look like in the future.
However, the i7 1165G7 achieves top scores in the single core.
As an alternative, I found a device with a Ryzen 5800HS.
In the single core top values
Which game still uses pure single core today? The trend is clearly MultiCore
… A 4 core and 8 core processor
Here, too, the direction is clearly towards 6+ cores.
the device is already on
took advantage of a few years
Here, too, my statement applies, 4 cores are no longer an option.
With a Ryzen 5800HS or H, you are certainly better positioned for the future.
The performance in 4K games
Certainly you need GPU performance in particular with 4K, but note that these "tests" are carried out with desktop CPUs (mostly).
Means a CPU that can keep the TDP stable. As an an example:
4 x 4.5 GHz continuously with 100% load… Desktop
8 x 4.5 GHz continuously with 65% load… Desktop
4 x 2.5 GHz permanently (Boost 4.5 GHz can't be maintained) with 100% load… Notebook
8 x 3.0 GHz permanently (Boost 4.5GHz can't be maintained but the load is better distributed and therefore a higher clock rate of the individual CPU cores) with 80% load… Notebook
The 8 core should do better here.
Yes, in any case.
The i7 processors have a good single-core performance and with 4k the graphics card is more stressed than the CPU.
Top processor and 4k is easy with the CPU and should be enough for a few years
