Reset old laptop (Windows 7) to factory settings?

I have the problem that I want to bring my old laptop back to the state it was in when I bought it (i.e. Delete all personal data).

My only problem is that the laptop is very old and hardly anything can be clicked on (it takes forever to open something).

Is there a trick how I can format the device quickly and is formatting the right solution at all, or a factory reset?

That's a bad solution!

Because your personal data will be retained.

Do you also sell your Windows? The key is also valid for Win 10!

Boats externally and afterwards:

format c:

(or the highest drive letter down to c.

After that, it can no longer be started from drive c. A Win 7 license is still yours and your data is "gone".

and: DO NOT choose fast formatting. Everything should be overwritten. Expect it to take many hours.

Hi

After that, hardly anything will work, updates will no longer work either.

Microsoft has discontinued the service / support and nothing has worked since January 14, 2021.

If the laptop is really that old, you should try to put Windows 8 on it first so that it still works with updates. But I suspect if this is such an old part, the CPU will be constantly at max and only hang and load.

Take money, get new ones would be my tip…

I can hardly judge how well you can still use the laptop, but if it still works, I would try the way that is described on the following website. (As far as I know, this is the easiest & fastest)

Hope it helps & good luck

I advise against it

The best thing is to install Windows 10.

Check out this video:

Your PC will definitely be faster again with new software and Windows 10.

So with my old one it had already helped when I had deleted all the garbage and defragmented it. But I believe that the problem can also lie elsewhere. Have you turned off automatic updates? If not, it may be that he did everything by the last update (01.2020), which slows him down very much. I turned off the 2016 updates. And if you have then reset it to the factory settings, it will do all updates until January 2020. About 300. 😁

Incidentally, I also have one with Win7 I had the same problem last month. Try it out with Linux

I would definitely not do that with such an old one, it probably has 1-2 RAM. It then runs worse than before.

Co

Ok sorry But I think Windows 10 is the best. If so, please just ignore my answer.

The idea is not bad, you can do it on a PC, but not on a laptop, it will have too little RAM and then poop. 🤣 Linux would probably work 🤔

sm

Me too! In Win8, he poops. And especially with Win10.

I don't want to sell or continue to use the laptop, but I would like the data on it to be erased.

That happens when formatting
