Migrate encrypted SSD from one notebook to another with OS and data?

I bought the direct successor Lenovo X230 as a replacement for a Lenovo X220. My plan was to just move the hard drive. Unfortunately, that didn't work out as well as hoped.

When I start, I get the input for the hard disk encryption password. Then I see a boot menu where the disk is also listed. I can't use it to boot, though. I suspect it might be due to the encryption - but I don't know.

Did someone like me have a suggestion without having to reinstall everything to get the disk including OS and data booted in the new device?

You should know which encryption is used. You can say what to do there

Poah good question. I activated hard disk encryption years ago. I assume it is the hard disk encryption on the hardware side, because otherwise the new notebook would not have asked me for the PW - I suspect. It even says okay after typing.

The hard drive is a Samsung 860 Evo

Yes, but did you only set an ATA password in the (UEFI) -BIOS (you could have dat for a while)? Or is the background more blue or black when you start it? Then it could be Bitlocker or Veracrypt.

Put the disk back into the old device and see which encryption is active

It can be so simple sometimes. The bios mode had to be changed to "Both" and the box is already running as desired.
