Which laptop for studying? Help with system etc?

I need a new laptop, but I hardly know my way around. I made inquiries, but I'm still unsure which one it should be. The only thing I need is a lot of storage space and a long-lasting battery (fast too, of course). I don't need special things (programs), I just have to have enough space for files, PowerPoint presentations, etc. I have a student discount and would like to use it if possible (for Lenovo, Microsoft and Apple) but I don't know which model fits. What do I need to pay attention to when purchasing? Does anyone have any suggestions? (Acer and HP didn't make a good impression on me personally)
