I'm considering buying an iPad Pro or a MacBook Air for my studies.
I would like to study financial mathematics. Does anyone have any experience and can tell me whether an iPad is sufficient or a laptop?
Or do you have experience with other courses and can report how it looks in other subjects? Business, economics, economics, business mathematics, mathematics and industrial engineering would be of particular interest here.
Of course, I won't make my study decision dependent on whether I can use an iPad! I just want to get an overview.
Laptop is better
But take one from Lenovo (Thinkpad)
What have you studied if I may ask? Do you have any special experiences?
Personally, I would always take the MacBook. If it doesn't quite fit from a financial point of view, a large iPad is sufficient, depending on the degree.
Not. I thought studying was a waste of time.
May I ask what you studied? Do you have any special cases where there are big differences?
Most use i Pad pros with keyboard or surface pros.
Theoretically enough.
So I study business administration myself and use Suface Book 2. And I don't really need all the technology that is built into it. For me, a touchscreen is a must have.
Exciting! What are you doing today?
I have the MacBook Pro and am very happy with it, I can only recommend it!
In general, I would recommend you from Apple. Nothing, but if you absolutely want to have an Apple device, then at least not a MacBook Air. The price-performance ratio is cruel and you have a fan inside that does not even cool what really does nothing and is useless.
As I said I would rather recommend what works with Windows because you really have a very good price-performance ratio and otherwise a MacBook Pro. They are not much better, but it works much better than a MacBook Air.
An iPad is not a laptop but a tablet and it won't change much, the best thing is really that you buy what you think is best for you and your workflow!
Thank you very much! Do you observe problems with special programs among iPad users?
No. Not that I know. Everyone is super happy with their devices. Finally, there are also a number of apps that have been developed for students. At least I don't know anyone who wants to switch to paper and pen again ^^
I don't want to reveal that
Thank you very much! Of course that makes sense. And the reason why I ask is that my workflow with iPads is actually very good and I therefore doubt whether a laptop makes more sense.
Yes, an iPad is not a laptop, but Office is running and PDFs are very easy to edit.
I still have a windows laptop if I need to use a laptop-exclusive program from time to time. Only the part weighs a lot and is also quite old.
Have a look after Asus Zephyrus G14. The cheapest version costs around 1200-1300 euro and you would have a laptop which is very powerful and good value for money. I own it myself and at 14 inches it is a very light and good looking device. B)
Ask me more if you want, I work in sales for consumer electronics and build / repair devices such as laptops / MacBooks / PC's as a hobby.
But you have to say that the block does not completely disappear. The more mathematical the subject, the more you'll probably use it in the end. So what it looks like in a pure math course.
Your answers are very insightful. I keep tending away from MacBooks.
The only thing I still wonder is whether it generally has to be a laptop. I would like to find out what experiences others have had with iPads. In my experience, the parts are a lot easier to use and less complicated than laptops. So if I don't need any laptop-exclusive programs all the time, I see little use in PCs.
Which version did you choose and what do you study / where do you work? Do you also use your MacBook for applications such as Logic, Photoshop or Final cut?
I'm a bad example there. Did my BSc (Hons) in Games Programming. Since I had to program logically for this, I needed a MacBook.
Have the latest version. Use it for school and it is just so much easier to write on it and the transport works well too. Unfortunately, I've fallen down several times, but it doesn't have a single scratch. Rather use the apps like Pages but cutting videos works very well with i movie…
