I would now like to learn Adobe Photoshop 2020, but I'm not sure which device to start with. Should you start classically on a laptop (MacBook Pro) or take the iPad Pro directly and work there with the touch gestures or The Apple Pencil?

If you have both devices, you can use it on both. They work very well together. For accurate layout functions, your Mac uses and if you now e.g. Do some illustration or mask by hand, then you can use your iPad. So you can get the best possible out of both devices on the same project.

I only own the MacBook Pro, but I thought about getting the iPad Pro for university and for image processing programs like Lightroom CC and Photoshop, and so the question arose rather whether a purchase is worth it at all.

Depends on. I would not get an iPad purely for image editing (except money doesn't matter to you). Your Mac is more suitable for this.

In my opinion, an iPad is only worthwhile if you either use it as a graphics tablet or if you illustrate it on it. But it's subjective.

Da

Definitely on a device to which you can connect an external large monitor.

The many menus etc. Take up a lot of space on the monitor, but are necessary to use the full potential.
