I connected a power supply to an old hard drive and then the laptop crashed and no longer pisses?

Today I connected an external hard drive to a laptop but it didn't have enough power so I took the first charging cable for the socket but when I connected the hard drive to the PC it crashed and since then it doesn't need any more help
