Laptop camera is not connected to the laptop?

I have a pretty old Sony laptop and because of the current situation I need the camera for class.

When I go to an online conference, I see that no camera is connected.

But if I restart the laptop shortly before I go to the online conference, it works again, but only for a few hours. Restarting the laptop also takes almost 30 minutes, so I can't restart it that often.

I could take my cell phone, but the battery doesn't last 6 hours.

Does anyone have any idea what I can do there?

Go to the control panel, search for the camera, go to properties and see if it is connected to a timer / counter / or similar.

Cell phone to charger and battery lasts.

Certainly that the right driver is installed for the camera or simply needs an update.

Otherwise, only a new laptop will help or simply format it completely and reinstall it.

30 minutes to boot up a laptop is extremely long, even for an old device.

I suspect he needs some spring cleaning.

Often an older computer can already be accelerated by completely rebuilding it.

That means you save the files that you need on a USB stick, an external hard drive or in the cloud.

Then you make a list of all the software you need and make sure that you can reinstall it via download or data carrier. Of course, you also need a data carrier to install the operating system.

You may also need license numbers or logins.

Then you format the hard drive and reinstall everything.

If the laptop does not yet have an SSD, it is worthwhile to skip the formatting step and install an SSD instead.

It can of course be the case that something is actually broken on the camera, which only shows up in longer operation, then the above does not help either.

If this is the case, you can also connect a USB webcam to your laptop with a built-in camera.
