Laptop hard drive the same as desktop PC hard drives?

I'm currently looking for a new hard drive. I have already found some cheap, good models for this, but I'm not sure whether these are also compatible with my mainboard (B450 Pro4). All write reviews of laptops. The disk is connected via SATA. Is there a difference now, or should the disk also run on my desktop PC?

Laptop hard drives are 2.5 "sized hard drives. Desktops are 3.5". First of all, by the way.

Well, that is actually no longer a criterion. Since SSDs are built into many desktops and they are also only 2.5 "in size.

Does that mean you can use these "laptop" hard drives in a normal way in a desktop PC. Depending on the housing, you may need a hard drive adapter from 3.5 "to 2.5" so that the hard drive can be installed correctly. However, modern housings now have mounting devices for both sizes. When it comes to the mainboard, you don't have to worry about compatibility.
