The USB port on my laptop is not working for some reason. However, this has to go again by Sunday evening. The laptop makes a noise when I plug in the mouse, for example, but I can't use it. The connection already had loose contacts in the period before.
Are there any tricks I could use at home to fix this?
Or do you know of any shop or service that could do this to me in time?
You have 3 options: 1. Having it repaired in the store will cost something. 2. Check whether your USB port has a driver or whether it is current. Because when you hear sound your USB port works but the device does not recognize it. What kind of operating system do you have? You can find it under Device Manager… 3. The USB port has a loose contact so it has come off the board. You can fix it again if it is a plug function or has to be soldered. If you can't, then option 1
I would theoretically be willing to have the whole thing repaired, but I don't know of any service or shop that would do that to me at the moment.
I don't really know how to use the device manager in Windows 10, what information I see there and how I then deal with it.
I opened the laptop and see no sign that the port is disconnected from the board. In my opinion, that doesn't make any sense either, because as I said, I hear the noise.
What may be useful information is that the sound has always come before, at the 'loose contact'. But then sometimes the mouse worked and sometimes it didn't
Then your USB port is probably broken when it has recognized the mouse. If you have Windows 10, then enter a search field on the desktop in the bottom left corner of the bar because of USB Manager. On the left is a list with all devices… Look where there's a triangle symbol with an exclamation mark. Then the driver is not up to date. Or the USB port in the list then right properties and then go to Driver. You can update it and see if it is up to date.
So in this device list you mentioned, there's nowhere a triangle and accordingly nothing that I can update, but I have now tried inside the laptop with different positions of the port and whether the mouse works accordingly. And sometimes in certain positions, the mouse worked and then this device was shown in the mouse list. The noise also came when the mouse was not displayed and accordingly did not work.
At which positions of the port the mouse works, but unfortunately had no pattern, it seemed pretty arbitrary.
