I would like to get a VR-Ready PC, now have a laptop and I have jmd. A bargain offered against the PC
FX-8350 8x 4.2Ghz 16GB RAM 120GB SSD 500GB SSD 2TB HDD R9 390X Strix with 8GB 700W BeQuiet power supply
Now I found out that the CPU is bad, with which CPU could you replace it so that the PC is VR-ready?
The socket is outdated. There will be nothing VR suitable for. And the R9 390X graphics card is not the gold of the egg for VR also, it is a small nuclear power plant with its scarce 400W consumption! You should build a completely new PC together. With the PC you would have to exchange so much that it is in principle a new PC.
The problem with the CPU is that there are no better CPUs for the socket. That means, the motherboard has to go out, too, and since the processor has DDR3 RAM, but a new platform needs DDR4 RAM, it also has to be removed. Unless you give away a 100 euro cheap laptop, I would not accept the exchange!
The best way to build your own PC on AM4 basis. In the spring, the new Zen 2 CPUs come out, which are supposed to have $ 99 for 6 cores and 12 threads
Besides, the graphics card is a bit weak for VR games
Unfortunately, this is the best CPU running on this motherboard, and as you said, it's not really usable. The entire system is unfortunately outdated and can be without a major upgrade (CPU, motherboard, RAM, graphics card, possibly power supply and housing, so practically everything) hardly VR ready-upgrade, since the hardware is partially not compatible with modern hardware.
