My girlfriend's new laptop is about to arrive and I'm allowed to set it up first, unfortunately I no longer have my USB stick from my laptop and wanted to ask whether you can do this with an external hard drive instead of the USB stick. Actually that should be possible because like the USB stick it is only a memory module, but I still wanted to ask again.
Both are possible, I always do it with a stick.
In principle that should work, but you should note that the Media Creation Utility would format the entire USB HDD: Complete data loss.
You can get a small USB stick (8GB is enough) for little money in any large supermarket.
Yes, both.
Thanks, but I knew that. I'll just get the data back later.
Yes, the installation medium does not matter what it is SSD, HDD, USB stick or cd dvd Blueray. Just needs to be bootable.
That's fine. - But be aware that the hard drive will be formatted by the Media Creation Tool or Rufus etc. And all data on it will be deleted.
Instead I would rather borrow an empty 8 GB USB stick from a friend.
