Why a CD / DVD drive?

I'm about to buy a laptop. But all good laptops don't have a CD / DVD drive. I know you can buy it externally, but do you need it at all? If so, then what for? So what can you do with a CD or DVD if you don't want to save files on it?

Nowadays, CDs or DVDs are rarely used.

Most downloads are on the Internet and you can save things on a USB stick.

So you can save the money for such a drive.

I need it because I have apps that need a DVD and because I want to watch films on them. If you are looking for a notebook to work with, you don't need a drive.

Thank you!

If you still have some, you can listen to music from the CD and watch films from the DVD. At least that's how it is with me. I no longer need a drive for data storage.

You can also buy an external drive later if you find you need it. Possibly. Do you then need an app so that the films also run (that was the case with me, music was not a problem).

Nowadays, in most cases you can do without a corresponding drive, which is why they are usually no longer installed.

Some use their PC / laptop e.g. For watching DVDs or listening to music. A drive is then required to play the DVDs or CDs.

CDs and DVDs are also used for data exchange or data backup. In this case, a CD / DVD burner is recommended.

Since I occasionally need a drive, I bought an external DVD burner which I then connect via USB.

I have an external one because I have a lot of older games that come on disc. And when I'm on the road for a longer time, I sometimes come to corners that have virtually no internet → nothing with streaming. However, I took a somewhat more expensive BluRay drive… Are there a lot of films and DVD / CD can do that too.
