I'm currently in the hospital and unfortunately there's only Wi-Fi in the lounge. However, I also need one in the room for my laptop. I used to have such a stick for Wi-Fi on the go. However, that was a long time ago. What kind of products are there now. Can you recommend something to order? Preferably without a contract, as I only need it for my stay in the clinic.

If there's no WLAN, a WLAN stick is also of no use. You need an LTE stick with a suitable SIM card.
If you have a smartphone with cellular access, you can use your smartphone to create a hotspot and thus provide Wi-Fi for your laptop. However, the internet access then runs possibly via your mobile phone tariff.

It depends on what you want to do with it. You can get by with it for surfing, but when it comes to videos or music it goes quickly. Otherwise, some providers (e.g. Deutsche Telekom) also offer a "dayflat", which offers unlimited mobile data volume for 24 hours.
