Computer screen black for a while after booting up - what's going on?

When I boot up my laptop everything is normal, but after entering the password my screen (desktop) does not light up directly, but remains black for a while. Not always (2 out of 3 times) and of different lengths. What is going on and what can I do?

How old?

That could e.g. Be a driver problem of the graphics card. Are all drivers up to date? A plugin may also cause this delay. Have a look to see what is loaded when the system starts…

How do I look it up? Sorry, quite a computer layman. And how do I find out whether the drivers are up to date?

An estimated 5 years.

In Windows you can find the device manager in the control panel. Here you can select the device. Right click and update to driver. You may find the most up-to-date drivers on the device manufacturer's website (often for graphics cards) in the Support etc. Area. The manufacturer and the model of the device (e.g. Graphics card) can be found in the device manager.

If you press Alt + Ctrl + Del in Win 10, you can open the Task Manager. Here is "Autostart" somewhere. Here you can see what loads everything when starting up. Possibly. Switch off and test something

Could be because of the age happened there's usually nothing you can do
