We should just in class about the pros / cons of notebooks in the classroom and the opinions of other people to inform, so what do you think about it.
In some subjects, I think it makes sense depending on the grade level and topic.
Notebooks are fighting this eternal wasteful paper economy. All relevant teaching materials can be stored electronically, so you take instead of heavy books his laptop, which is hardly larger than a book and much easier. The students deal with digital media and learn to deal with elementary programs for text editing and other. These are things that you need later in every job.
As for the negative aspects of website distraction that has nothing to do with teaching, you can do great with site filters and centralize user account control through the school with corresponding limited rights.
From me so a clear "Yes!" to laptops in the classroom.
It depends very much on the subject.
I still go to vocational school and do an apprenticeship as a specialist in computer science.
Many of the media are already made available to us digitally, so I do not need to drag a thick folder, but I have sorted everything on my notebook by subject and date, even labeled accordingly that I can find the data quickly.
Folders are divided by year, in it by subject. The file is named "20191004_Vor & Cons of Notebooks.pdf" as an example.
Otherwise, I scan the leaves and then have them digital. The original is then disposed of.
I can label the sheets quite easily with the program "Foxit Reader".
Although admittedly sometimes faster if you do it by hand.
Some drawings are only manual, I write this in the classroom, sometimes these things are then scanned and saved as soon as I'm home or clean with the computer again transferred.
In business administration we work anyway with tables that can be implemented much better and in Excel. Of course, this is more likely to be lazy, but in the vocational school, it is only about knowing how to do it anyway. It does not matter if you do it by hand or by Excel.
In computer science lessons, we often have to virtualize, because there are only two PCs available for two students, which is also slow on top of that.
Since the notebook is better, then everyone has a laptop and they are even faster
Our school also has Wi-Fi in each room!
It does not offer itself in every subject, but in so many subjects it is advantageous.
The disadvantages are also obvious, but they are man made. You could, for example, surf on a good question to answer the questions of others * innocent whistle * or just play something. So it just depends on whether the student uses the notebook properly. Under certain circumstances, it may therefore be advantageous depending on the subject.
And centralize user account control through the school with corresponding restricted rights.
But this is only possible if the notebooks are from the school. Not really with private notebooks.
Either way, one would have to develop a corresponding model in which the school, for example, provides the devices with limited rights of use (the financing or cost sharing also plays a role, of course), so that the students can do no mischief with the devices.
And now consider how long it will take until the schools have enough notebooks to be able to provide one for all students.
The schools have no money anyway.
