I have the following problem:
Sitting at a laptop, with which I'm connected via a remote connection to the server of my workplace. It is possible to set up a printer, but it only shows printers in the office, but I would like to connect the local printer next to my laptop.
Currently, I copy data over the remote connection to my local computer and then print locally. However, that draws a lot of data from the mobile hotspot.
Know me in terms of network technology only superficially and have therefore found no instructions. So when explaining attempts please consider the dumbest user to be considered.
It does not work because you use your employer's network remotely, which does not have access to your private printer and for security reasons.
Ask the IT department of your company to set up secure access when working from home more often. Until then you only have to continue to copy the data from the remote connection.
"[…] However, that draws a lot of data from the mobile hotspot. […]"
Do not have DSL at home, with the router uses the Internet?
You probably have a "remote desktop shortcut" on your laptop.
There you have to edit the properties (right-click on the link). There then in the register printer / hardware… Take your local printer "into the meeting".
If you then connect freshly with the Remote Desktop connection, you have / see your printer on the company PC under "Devices and Printers"!
Whether you then printer driver "for your local printer" still had to install on the company PC, you have to check.
Am on various construction sites throughout Germany. But unfortunately have no IT department, but only an external computer company. Have enough permissions and access, just this problem.
Then this company is your contact person to set up a secure access to your brought printer.
Alternatively, you should negotiate with your company about an increase in the data volume of your mobile hotspot.
Thank you for the explanation. However, I get a right-click on the remote connection no selection with "devices". Have it over the "release" option tried. However, the printer is not found here (I've already connected it locally with the computer over the network, since I have no cable here)
Select the link "Edit" or "Show options"…

Here is a good YouTube video, unfortunately English:
"It does not work because you use your employer's network remotely, which does not have access to your private printer and for security reasons."
But have you ever heard that local printers can be included in the RDP session? This is absolutely normal for home office workstations.
Yes, that's the deciding word here, and changing site operations is not a common home office.
It does not change the fact that the mentioned computer company is responsible, either to fulfill the customer's requests or to explain, why this can't be possible, or to make any compromises.
If you build a RDP session from anywhere to a server, you can take his printer into the session. Unless this is server-side locked. But just printers are a common scenario. Details should clarify the asker with his IT service provider, right.
