Brother printer does not print - does anyone know what to do?

Our Brother printer MFC-290C (approx. 10 years old) no longer prints from one day to the next. So far went perfectly.

Print job on laptop (Win 10, 64 bit) is issued, printer is also found with the job and can be selected. However, the print job does not arrive at the printer.

Printer driver has already been reinstalled. Electricity is there, of course. Printer cartridges are ready to go.

Printer is connected to laptop with USB cable. The cable does not seem to be: Printing from laptop to another printer with this same cable works.

It's also not the mechanics of the printer. Test page can be printed easily via the menu on the printer.

It somehow fails because of the communication of the devices. But why?

Does anyone have any idea what else to check?

Had the same problem that the printer did not print then plugged the USB cable out and back in and then the printer ran again

The last Windows update a few days ago had an error and therefore printing does not work, the only thing that helps is waiting for the update or uninstalling it, then it should work again.

Google broken?

So if the print job goes to the printer then right click on the printer icon at the bottom right> Printer> Cancel all print jobs. In addition, remove the tick "Stop printer" by clicking.

Should now function properly again. If not then see response from "davidl0308"

Nice if it had been that easy…

That's exactly it!

Very dear thanks!

That was exactly what helped me

Didn't uninstall anything, but picked out and installed the appropriate update for the update.

Now the printer runs perfectly again. Excellent!

Sorry, but "Google broken?" unfortunately doesn't help me at all.

Believe me, I've tried that before. I didn't come across the faulty Windows 10 update.

And I (f, 45) aren't an IT system administrator who comes to the root of the problem immediately. But believe me, I can and certainly know things about which you have no idea and where you would look for help.

But no offense. And thanks for the link! 😀

Glad to be pleased.
