I had just asked a question about a tablet purchase advice, but would like to ask something else.
Well, I need something for university, that much is clear. I would like to be able to write on it with a pen without any problems (e.g. With OneNote), of course also with a keyboard, to be able to program, to be able to write homework and to use it to study in the bib.
I would like to deepen my hardly existing Linux knowledge, so shouldn't be Windows (already use it as a desktop). So I want to play Linux on it.
The device should have a lot of power for these applications
What should I buy for it? Tablet? Laptop? Something in between?
Just a note: Please no Apple products, have had a bad experience with customer service. In addition, the products are simply too expensive for me.
Would definitely buy a Windows laptop. Which laptop suits you depends entirely on your budget.
fyi: You can easily add Linux to that. But you should actually know…
Yes, I know that, of course, but I don't feel like doing it all afterwards when I can do it when I buy it.

purely for the office (taking notes, learning, writing homework) you don't usually need a lot of power.
Programming is also possible with weak devices - unless you want e.g. Programming 3D games
Personally, I would go for a laptop with a device with 16GB RAM, i5 or Ryzen 5 (or even higher) - with a 512GB SSD (or higher)

Linux is difficult to install on tablets, most laptops do not have a touchscreen (and if so, probably not with a pen) - but there are exceptions. A convertible with a pen would be a solution, but personally can't recommend anything (as no experience with)
Alternative that I would suggest: Both - a relatively cheap PC / laptop for taking notes (with Linux on it - keyboard, programming, writing homework) AND a tablet with a pen for taking notes (e.g. Tab S6 / S7, S6 lite)
As an alternative to the "real" tablet, a drawing tablet for the laptop (e.g. From Wacom) - needs a bit of getting used to, after which it is also very good
Do you have to decide what you want to lug around ^^
If I were you, I'd rather take a window tablet. It costs but it's really cool. It's actually like a laptop just more compact. You can use pens (logitech pen or something), etc. Has many advantages
Yes, I know that, of course, but I don't feel like doing it all afterwards when I can do it when I buy it.
very few devices bring a Linux pre-installed…
Get a Chromebook there you can activate Linux and if that's not enough you can also install a decent Linux Chromebooks are small often have touch and have long battery life I would recommend the Acer Spin 311 for 325 euro and on Black Friday you have 200 euro 16 hours of battery life I've already managed up to 28, it has touch and can "transform" into a tablet
I would first wait and see what is needed at the university. You may well need a Windows laptop to do group work, run special software with no tricks, etc.
You can also take notes with pen and paper. Sometimes it's even more pleasant in the hustle and bustle of the university, etc.
WIndows is rubbish
Oh and one more tip chromebooks should soon be able to work with windows programs.
That's not true
Haha
that was good
