IPad or books?

I'm thinking about getting an iPad for university because I often have to print out texts or buy expensive books that also take up a lot of space. With the iPad, I could then read the pdfs directly for free or buy the cheaper e-books.

I'm just wondering whether I can then read and learn the pdfs on the display without any difficulty concentrating, because it doesn't work for me with a laptop, for example.

Does anyone have experience with using the iPad to read long texts and books?

With the Surface Pro you would of course also have a Windows system.

Personally, I think paper is much better. Of course, you can carry an entire library with you on a tablet computer.

So I do it as follows: In order to be able to read ebooks, I have bought a relatively good ebook reader, where I usually read the literature for university on it and, if necessary, take notes (either using the note function of the ebook reader or manually on paper). Ebook readers are designed so that your eyes do not get tired or broken when reading for a long time + you can also read privately for fun on the reader.
When I sit down at the laptop to write work or something, then I use a very cheap tablet, with which I can just open PDFs (and only open a website). Then I have the book open next to me and can search back and forth more quickly and swipe away or enlarge pages more quickly (this is not that fast with ebookreader, especially pdfs take a long time to be displayed.). A tablet is just not designed to read long texts on it. Means you get tired faster while reading. But you are strained when you work on your laptop anyway.
