Use external camera with WhatsApp?

Is it possible to use an external camera for WhatsApp video calls? So e.g. Connect the cell phone to the laptop and use the laptop webcam. WhatsApp video calls themselves are unfortunately not possible on the PC.

I would rather connect a camera directly to the cell phone via USB and try whether it works, the laptop webcams are even worse than those of cell phones

Unfortunately, I only have the laptop webcam. And it is actually better than that of my cell phone. And it is more about comfort than quality because I also have to do something on my laptop when I make a video call.
