Headphones to laptop microphone?

When I tried to connect my cellphone headphones to my laptoo lately, I heard everything, but I could not use the microphone. I also tried other headphones and looked in the control panel and noticed that the microphone is not recognized by the headphones. Tips?

Is it a microphone input on the laptop? Or only headphone output?

Does your laptop have 2 jack connections or just a single one? If there are 2, it is logical that you can't use your microphone.

Cellphone headphones use a combined plug, you would need an adapter that distributes that to the two signals.

Only works if it is a combination connection (like with the mobile phone). So both symbols must be pronounced on the notebook.
