Old is a matter of opinion. I have one that has been around for more than 10 years and runs flawlessly. The secret recipe: now and then flatten and put it on again (it accumulates quite a bit of garbage, which makes the computer slow and prone to errors) and is lucky so that nothing is broken by the hardware.

8 years is a proud age for a laptop. I would start Windows again. If that doesn't help, then open the laptop and clean it. If only one HDD is installed, install an SSD.
