HDMI TV not recognized by Vista laptop?

I wanted to transfer my laptop to my TV, it is connected to HDMI but my laptop does not recognize it as a monitor. There's a VGA connection, but why else should there be HDMI?

I definitely want to transfer it… With win10 it would definitely work but with Vista I should make it too…

Upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 10 is not free. In addition, there has been no support for Windows Vista since 2017. Even current web browser versions no longer run under Windows Vista. I would recommend installing a Linux distribution on the laptop. For example Lubuntu. It works like this:

Download the Lubuntu ISO: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/...-amd64.iso This is the current stable long-term support version
Then write the ISO with the LinuxLive USB Creator https://www.heise.de/...ator-90060 on an empty formatted USB stick. Then you have a bootable stick.
Boot the created stick and follow the instructions of the assistant. It immediately sets up the WLAN and offers the option to delete the hard drive completely. I recommend a full installation. You should also select the item "Third-party software". The latest Firefox, LibreOffice, multimedia components and tools are also installed.
When the installation is complete, a restart is required.
If appears after restarting the desktop, the update manager reports at the bottom of the taskbar. You should install these updates. You can also automate this so that it runs in the background.

And this is how you install programs under Lubuntu: Start menu> System tools> Software. It is like a kind of app store and is operated as such. Here you can find e.g. The VLC media player and much more.

For HDMI, first connect the TV, then switch on the laptop. Then it works.

Lubuntu goes off like a rocket and barely scratches system resources. In comparison, Windows Vista is a lame duck. So you can still use an old laptop without spending any money.

The image transmission has nothing to do with the operating system.

If both your laptop and your TV are HDMI-capable and still no picture is transmitted, check whether the latest graphics driver is installed.

Or you try the following, but leave your laptop connected during the setting:

Go to the control panel and enter "transfer screen" into the search bar, then you will be redirected directly to the display settings, where you can then select the options relevant to you.

It is particularly recommended that you make sure that you select the option to display the screens on both devices.

Alternatively, you can only display the screen on the TV, so that the picture on your laptop remains black or vice versa, as soon as the connection is cut, everything is back to normal - but as I said, I can't recommend it.

Ui. What exactly is that TV?

What happens if you press "Source" on the remote control and then select the HDMI connection of your TV to which the laptop is connected in the selection?

Check the configuration with a different, possibly new HDMI cable, maybe the other cable is the problem.

Ok but I chose the right source

Thank you, is it Lubuntu because of the lowest system requirements?

Or can I also install a newer version (linux mint etc.)

Jo

* ubuntu

Lubuntu is an official Ubuntu devirate and 100% compatible with it. The only difference is that Lubuntu uses a resource-saving desktop. Otherwise, it is identical to Ubuntu.

Jo

((Do you know if lubuntu is running on my vistalaptop?

I have 2gb ram, vista on 32bit, 2ghz pentium.

Otherwise I find ubuntu suitable because I was looking for a clean, easy-to-use distro. (Win makes your pc slower, which is not the case with linux.

But do I have to boot or can I install it directly on my laptop?

That would be my question…

Jo

How do I check if my graphics driver is the latest?

I downloaded the graphics drivers for my laptop from the Medion website, but I don't know what to do with them.

You have to boot the created Lubuntu stick. Even with only 2GB of RAM, Lubuntu is like a rocket and requires less system resources than Windows Vista. Ubuntu would run slowly because the Unity desktop eats up a lot of resources. The specified download link is the current stable long-term support version. If a new stable long-term support version appears, the update manager reports and offers an update. Your settings are automatically adopted.

In the Control Panel you select the "Device Manager" and there you will find your graphics card, then right click and select "Install Driver", then the option that you want to select it from the hard drive and enter the directory path, where you downloaded the drivers.

My TV is not HDMI capable, I did it with a DVI to HDMI cable.
