I found a very old laptop with Windows Vista / XP on it. And my question is why the internet explorer doesn't work. I also uploaded a picture for it. I've already tried everything that is in there. Or should I just download a newer operating system and how to do it.
thanks in advance
Thereotically one should also use a new operating system. Because what do you expect with the outdated Internet Explorer. If you only want to use this laptop for surfing, then I recommend you switch to Linux.
Thanks but then exactly the same comes
Ok, thanks, but then I can't download a new operating system if Internet Explorer doesn't work
Now is XP or Vista on it? The error message is standard. This is also displayed when there's no connection to the Internet. Normally the explorer sees that it is out of date. If it is too old, an update is no longer possible. I myself use a Firefox for my old parts.
So it says Windows XP with Vista on it
but how can I download firefox when the explorer no longer works?
You then have to download an operating system from another computer. Just do everything according to the instructions
Stupid question: Do you have your laptop connected via LAN or WLAN?
I connected it via Wi-Fi
OK thanks
You have to do that with another computer and then copy it over with a stick. But first of all, check whether there's a connection to the Internet at all times.
Yes the connection works
Close all Windows and Internet Explorer windows. Start the Internet Explorer. Click on "Tools" and select: "Internet Options". Switch to the "Expand" tab, click "Reset", then click "Reset" again.
Yes i did it but it still doesn't work
I usually install a modern and well-equipped operating system on old laptops. Linux Mint 20.1 is free of charge, better equipped than W10 and runs fine on older computers that buckle at W10. The operation is like with Win7.
On the magazine shelf there are Linux magazines like Linux Welt, LinuxUser etc., if a DVD is in there, there's always at least one modern Linux in the installable full version on it. A license key or virus scanner is not required with Linux.
Live Linux on a USB pen, which can also be installed, can be ordered from IXOFT for 10 euro.
The third possibility is that you go to the neighbor and enter "Mint download" on her PC. The Cinnamon ISO file stored there can be downloaded, installed on USB with Etcher and when the computer is then booted from the USB pen, you are already on the Mint desktop and can use all programs live or click Install and be installed alongside Windows or alone.
Computers can be used much longer under Linux than with non-free payment operating systems. With the solution you have the latest software including Libre Office and a secure browser.
