My laptop hung up on a live stream today and made a sudden drill-like noise. I have Windows 8.1. What could be the reason?

Apparently the fan of your notebook is defective and has a bearing damage and as a result the processor is overheated and has switched off in order not to break.
If you are a bit skilled in the art, open your notebook and check the exact name of the fan and order a new one from EBAY.
You can also test it beforehand, put the calculator in the fridge for an hour and then turn it on. With the extra cold from the fridge, it should run for a few minutes until it turns off again.
