Set up Wi-Fi does not work?

I got a technician appointment today to activate my Wi-Fi. (O² my Home L). I have my own router, but there's always only Wi-Fi secured, no Internet. So the line is apparently there, but doesn't recognize my laptop? I set up everything as in the description.

Does somebody has any idea?

Ja

Secured means you have to enter a password.

Ab

Do I have

Ja

Then probably the wrong one, otherwise it would say that you are connected but have no internet.

Usually when it says Secure you are not connected. But it is difficult to judge without seeing it.

Do the other devices work in the Wi-Fi? Your cell phone for example?

Ab

Neither

Ja

Do you know if the internet works at all? So maybe the latop is connected to the router with a cable?

My guess is still you are not connected because wrong password at least it sounds like that

Za

Did it work when the technician was there? Has he set up the devices?

Which LEDs are lit on the router?

Ab

I already did, didn't work either.

Ab

Had the router only bought after the technician appointment. He himself said he had nothing to do with the router anyway.

Za

Ok and which LEDs light up on the router?

Ab

Hm wrong passwords… I haven't got that many now 😅

Za

Then you connected the router incorrectly or took the wrong one. Or the connection doesn't work at all. Check again how you have connected the router and which LEDs are lit. If it is not in sync, the error has occurred and the technician has to come back.

Ab

2 LEDs for Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), DSL and the on LED

Ab

Allegedly the router is compatible with o². I inquired.

Ja

Does the internet at least shine? Sounds more like the internet doesn't work in general. Did the technician say it would take a few hours or something?

Ab

Yes, exactly the LEDs for the Internet (Wi-Fi and DSL) light up.

Ja

Because I just read that in the other answer. Sounds like the router is wrongly connected or not set correctly ^^ Are you sure that you have a router and no modem or can it be that the technician has installed a modem and you now have a router with a modem function?

There are now many sources of error

Ja

I would recommend you to ask friends or people who know what they should take a look at.

Ab

I have a router with an integrated modem.

Ab

I asked neighbors. : Uh sorry, would like to help you, but I don't know my way around that either.

Ja

: D you will have friends or acquaintances who know a little about that? Brother / father mother or something?

Ab

I just got the message that another technician is coming tomorrow.

Za

The type of connection is important. What type of technology does your internet connection have? The tariff you name can be used via DSL, fiber optics, 5G or cable. And you need an appropriate router.

Ab

DSL

Za

And what is the name of the router you bought?

Ab

TP-LINK VR600V AC1600 WLAN-TELEPHONE-DSL router

Za

Ok that should fit. But if you can't get online via LAN either, then something doesn't fit. You wrote the technician will come again tomorrow, so presumably he was not able to activate the connection today, then all your attempts will not help.

Ab

If not, an extra technician has to connect it. It costs money, but I definitely need working Wi-Fi because of my studies. I can't use the neighbors' Wi-Fi forever

Ab

But why do the LEDs light up then?

Za

I can hardly answer that correctly from a distance. If everything is connected correctly with you, the port could be configured incorrectly. And I'm surprised that the technician wants to come back. Without you hiring him again?

Ab

Yes, I just tried out how to do it now, then called the service and suddenly they said that a message had already been received and before I was informed again by sms that someone would come again tomorrow. But I didn't request one directly.

Gr

And you have entered the password, which is assigned in the router? Often found on the back of the device.

Ab

Yes exactly. The Wi-Fi LED is on, but no internet connection. On the router it is also off

Fa

First of all, it is important to name the problem correctly. Lately I've been reading something like WLAN = Internet, which means that WLAN means that you have an Internet connection.

WLAN is a radio technology with a short range (within an apartment / house). This will replace the LAN cable for you. As soon as you are connected to the router - the router usually has a specific IP address… And you can log into the router to make configurations, you have no Wi-Fi problem. The Wi-Fi name and Wi-Fi password are usually on the back of the device; they should be changed.

You then have to make the settings in the router to connect to DSL / TV cable / fiber optics / cellular network. In most cases, you will receive the relevant access data from the network operator with whom you have an internet contract. They have to be set in the router if you bought it yourself - if you got one for the contract, some of them are preset. If something does not work, you have to contact the network operator.

Ab

I have then. I have no idea what the technician wants to do tomorrow. Maybe he'll stop the whole thing for me. Maybe I'm doing something wrong and can't see the forest for the trees.
