Computer for mechanical engineering?

My laptop hangs up all the time and is slow. Consider adding a computer that is faster. Or do I have other alternatives?

If you have a mobile phone contract with unlimited data volume (or a lot) and or your university has public Internet, I can always recommend a Chromebook.
