What to do, so that the laptop recognizes the new hard drive?

Hi, the following problem: My laptop has become too slow and I thought I swap the hard drive from HDD to SSD (2.5 inches). The problem is that I get an error message when I try to install the operating system on the built-in hard drive with a Windows installation CD. Even if the operating system is installed on the SSD, the hard disk is recognized, but the laptop refuses to boot from the hard disk. Does anyone know what needs to be done for the laptop to boot from? Like to try stuff and then sign up here.

How could the OS be installed if an error always occurs during installation?

ar

Maybe make a fresh installation stick with the Media Creation Tool. Maybe your DVD is no longer okay.

But if you keep the error concealed, you can only poke around in the dark

Ja

Error message, all right: If I connect the SSD and say please install operating system on the SSD he says "can't find a bootable device"

Ja

Since I have the SSD again removed from the notebook and connected to my tower and then used the CD for the installation

ca

Not a good idea.

ar

And say please install OS on the SSD

How exactly do you say that? Maybe you are already making a mistake here? And where does the error message come from? Does that come in the UEFI?

ca

The bootable device must first be the installation medium. So you first boot from DVD or USB stick.

Ja

Yes, I do not say that correctly. I have a hard drive that I install in the laptop. I insert the CD and start the laptop, while I set in the BIOS that the first boot option is to use the CD

Ja

Okay yeah right, but this medium will not open, and that's my problem. It does not say "Press any key to start the installation…"

Ja

That may be true, but that's how it worked. Nevertheless, the hard drive remains unusable for the laptop

ar

Then I refer to my original answer. Create a bootable installation stick (empty USB stick with at least 8 GB) with the Media creation tool from Windows. Then try to boot it and run the installation from there.

Does your PC have a UEFI bios?

If this is the case and your notebook is still working with a normal Bios this can't be anything moreover it does not bring you anything your Windows on a system to install (PC) completely different from the system (notebook) on which Windows should then work,

I would go another way namely the cloning of the system from your HDD to the SSD.

However, you would have to do some preliminary work on the HDD so that works smoothly.

Ja

Okay, but installing on the hard drive is not the problem. I mentioned that I connected the SSD to my tower PC and used the same CD to install Windows on the SSD. Has worked, no thing, hard drive was displayed in the boot menu, all right. Then I take the SSD with Windows 10 installed and place it in the laptop. Nothing happens, he refuses to boot Windows from the hard drive.

If you have the SSD in the notebook, which is recognized by the bios? If not there could be a bios update due (how old is your notebook?)
