Yesterday I discussed a bit with my mom about the fact that I would like to have a PC. However, she said that laptops are much better and nowadays they have the same performance as a PC.
I'm 15 and have had a laptop in my room for a year. I don't get along very well with that because I like to produce music. Means when I connect an interface etc. It always becomes problematic. Especially when you use very powerful "apps". E.g. If you want to animate or want to cut a video, you can't get along with a PC.
How do I manage to persuade my parents to buy a PC and not a laptop?
You have a good reason:
because I like to produce music. Means when I connect an interface etc. It always becomes problematic. Especially when you use very powerful "apps". E.g. If you want to animate or want to cut a video, you can't get along with a PC.
If that's not enough, it won't work.
nowadays it has the same performance as a PC.
Mothers like to say things without knowing it. It was the same with mine. Just google and present the result to your mother and hope she is the kind of person who shows insight.
You already gave a good reason in the question. Another reason would be that with a PC you usually have a larger monitor and you can easily use components, e.g. B. Change the processor.
Have you ever thought wrong, convincing makes more sense. Well, you've already written what you're going to do with it. I suggest the following:
1. You write down what exactly you want to do, which programs and, if necessary, which connections etc. You need.
2. Then you look at the required performance data.
3. Then you look, together with your mother, which laptop would be suitable for it.
If you can find one, you both have what you want. If not, you can talk to her again via the PC.
After what you write, I would actually prefer a powerful clapper computer because you are more mobile then.
Laptops inherently lose a lot of performance due to poor cooling and because everything is very cramped. A laptop is really only useful if you are on the go with it a lot.
When it comes to producing music, if you want to connect analog synths, interfaces and the like, PCs are much better due to the fact that there are more connections available. Quite apart from soft synths in terms of performance - just let 2-3 Supersaws play via Serum on a laptop at the same time, I haven't seen a laptop that pulls this for longer than 30 seconds at a time without any problems.
A laptop with the same performance costs twice as much, offers poorer cooling and can also be cumbersome.
Above all, a self-assembled PC can be much cheaper, quieter and very important: you can upgrade and is therefore always up to date and it is easier to clean. If, for example, the graphics card or something else is defective, you can simply install a new one in 2 minutes. Laptops are harder to repair, they are expensive to repair and there are not always spare parts and they can hardly be upgraded. If something is damaged on the laptop or it no longer offers much performance, then you can buy a new one. With a Pc you save a lot of money and you can configure it more easily in order to create a perfect system for your requirements.
A laptop that has performance and with which you also want to gamble properly, you have to put at least 1000-2000 euro on the table.
Per laptop:
- Portable
Per PC:
- Better cooling
- Better performance for your money
- Easier to clean
- Easier to set up and repair (always up to date)
- The bottom line is cheaper
She is of the opinion that if I have a permanent PC, I become dependent and therefore I would not want to go anywhere. We travel a lot and she thinks that if I have a laptop, I can take it with me. So if I have a permanent PC I could allegedly become dependent. I don't check.

I can understand that again, because it was the same with my brother. When he bought the Tower PC, he became even more addicted and wanted to do next to nothing. Now he is very overweight, lazy, unhygienic… Just addicted to gambling.
If you are at risk of gambling addiction / addiction, then you'd better not do it.
Is already a risk…
? I wonder where the train of thought is missing. So you become more 'dependent' if you have a PC that you can't take with you than if you have a computer that you can take with you everywhere? Crazy world. Quite apart from that, we're now living in a time in which there's little that can be described as dependency - at least as an extreme form deviating from the norm - when it comes to the time spent in front of a PC and the like. In the meantime, everyone basically spends half or more of their time in front of some kind of screen, and has been doing so for a long time from a very early age… And that will probably not turn back either.
Can't understand your mother's train of thought in this regard. I can't say more.
