I have a technical question!
I have my PC in the study. I'm very satisfied with that too - he should like to stay there.
Now and then I get a visit from old colleagues and we play in the network the old classics. The boys come with a laptop - I do not have one. And to rebuild the whole computer every now and then makes no fun anymore.
Now there's the Steam Link - which does not work so well. On the one hand only with Steam, on the other hand makes the mouse and keyboard control on many titles problems.
So now I'm looking for a way, I can anschmeißen my PC in the living room NEN monitor and NEN USB hub have, and from there comfortably the PC "in-home stream". Basically like the Steam link - but for the whole OS, not just a game enthusiast.
Are there any known options there? NVidia Shield can seemingly not synonymous freely control the computer?
Spontaneously, I would think of the following:
You take a Raspberry Pi and connect it in the living room to your TV or another monitor.
From Raspberry Pi, you then start a remote desktop connection via LAN to your PC to control it so far.
How well this works with games I can't tell you. I have a comparable constellation so far only to watch videos and Office applications used.
First, thanks for the answer! So at work I occasionally work with remote desktops at work and that often has latency problems wenns nen large record, I have the feeling. But have already seen such a remote control, just do not know how to find something!
If the connection runs only over the LAN, the latency problems usually stay within limits. Of course, it depends on the transmission speed of your LAN.
Of course, if the connection is established through the server of the Remote Desktop Application Provider, the distance will be extended. Here then also the utilization of the Internet lines plays a role.
One possible application that also runs on the Raspberry Pi is TeamViewer. There you can also activate in the settings that the connection should go directly over the LAN. The target computer is then addressed via the local IP address.
The best you build 2 PC systems on one in the study the other is in the living room. Even if that is not financially significant, the problem should be solved by praying and easiest. You could use a thin client to connect via remote with the main PC system and then gamble on it. But also sets a PC in advance (thin client) but this must also be powerful to play the video correctly and flicker-free. Not every model can do this.
If it should be as latency free, eigendlich remain only an ultra-long hdmi cable or a corresponding hdmi radio connection. The latter is so expensive that you can buy the same for a small mini pc for the money…
if your classic games also run on android, you can also buy for about 60 euro an android box for the living room.
