USB stick is not recognized 2020?

The following: I gave my father a wild camera last Christmas and he has already taken numerous pictures with it and always saved everything on a USB stick. Recently said stick has not been recognized by laptops or smart TVs. I have already gotten some offers for data recovery from USB sticks from specialist companies in the area, but they all have horrendous prices of sometimes over 200 euro and that is not worth the fun.

Do you have any idea what could be with the stick or how I could save the data?

Is it not displayed under the disk management? It may be that the letter is simply missing.

Another computer too? Maybe try it out under Linux?
