Laptop to monitor switches to duplicate immediately after switching on?

The question is more or less in the title, but I'll explain it a little more precisely xD

So if I connect an external monitor to my laptop (via VGA), the laptop switches to duplicate approx. 30 - 60 s after switching on. Since my laptop can celebrate its 10th birthday next year, it only has a 720p resolution, my monitor (FullHD) also changes the resolution, which is clear. I have already looked everywhere in the settings, but did not find anything. But it could also be that I'm just blind. XD

The problem is not particularly annoying now, but it bothers me. The graphics used here are Intel HD Graphics 3000 drivers are all up to date.

Right click on desktop and then display settings. Then look down to multiple screens. Then you can choose whether only the external screen should show, whether it is duplicated or an extension of the first one.

Laptops usually have a button with screens on them. Then you can step through the possibilities. Sometimes it is also a function key with or without an FN key
