What kind of hard drive is it and why is it not recognized?

I got a hard drive from the neighbor and connected it to the laptop. Why is not it recognized? Is there still a cable missing? I only have the usb 2.0 cable. See pictures

Ta

This is a 3.5 "HDD in a case, which still requires an external power supply, and it lacks a power supply with a corresponding plug for the free connection.

Br

Do you know what that means

Ta

Unfortunately not. I once had something similar but there was the power supply broken.

lo

You still need a power adapter for the device. The problem is, the plug here is not standardized.

I had years ago an external hard drive and an external cdrom, where synonymous with a similar power supply was in each case (both from the same manufacturer.) The "funny" it, the connector assignment was not the same. Luckily, I have only the optical drive Connected and noticed that there are smoke signals.

if your neighbor no longer has the right power supply for the drive. Then it gets difficult. I do not want to say impossible but the effort will not be worth the running engine.

The disk should be connected via USB immediately. Power connection, etc. Does not need it.

If it is not detected, it is either broken or your USB port has a problem or the connection cable… Try on another PC before, if it is recognized.

The 3.5 "need power connector for the 12V power supply. Only the 2.5" run purely on 5V USB… Should be a comunity expert for computers though.

Ca

Am expert… Real, even if I have not given myself this award here. Lol…

I only have an external disk on my Sat Receiver. Runs via USB. No thing. How many diameters she has. Never paid attention. Something that you can install in a notebook.

But you are really funny. I need such comments. Let's get a neat top down… I'm really sympathetic to you now. Always peace joy Egg cake is boring.

But seriously.

Your comment helped me a lot. Although I'm already old 50, but you always learn.

If then constructive contributions, like yours, come… I'm still learning.

Please do not take it crooked… It should not mean bad. The. Smilie should judge it. That the award as a "community expert" does not describe omniscience, I know myself. I have chosen so synonymous in the field of technology / technology, although I know not everything by far…

I know the 3.5 "case, because I own 2, but because of the extra power supply no longer use. They are too annoying… The 2.5" are there much more convenient and you can use them on the go. In addition, they are more compact and fit better in the bag… Believe, meanwhile, you get the 3.5 "hard drives as external hardly synonymous, because no one wants to lug extra power supplies.

Ca

Your answer is sooo good…

I think your answer is very enlightning. I like to learn again and again. Even with old stone 50 you can still learn something. Do not worry that there are external HDDs with power cables.

And if you write it as nice as you do. Always my pleasure.
