Has my laptop caught a virus?

To the general: I have since November a Microsoft SurfaceBook 2. Use the virus protection Avira and have just recently installed an AdBlocker.

Earlier, when downloading a new wallpaper on Google Chrome, I realized that I partially received "501 Error Messages" via "Open Link in New Tab" and that the Internet addresses looked very strange. For example, "2Q ==" was completely lonely and alone.

Normally I use the laptop exclusively for the university, but had recently tried something to stream and so have a guess where the virus, if it is one, comes from.

I have just scanned twice with Avira and it appears that no threats or viruses have been found and protection is active. Can I trust the "fully and completely"?

Much slower, the laptop does not seem to me. He only crashed 1-2 weeks ago. But that was before the streaming and online I had read that probably was due to a faulty Windows update.

I'm very happy about your answers. Unfortunately I'm an absolute zero, which concerns IT.

501 is an error code for an internal server error. Has nothing to do with the frontend (your browser).

Will probably have nothing to do with a virus.

Can you check your windows for errors

Press Windows key + X
Select Powerschell (Administrator)
sfc / scannow
Enter point 3 and click enter then windows will be checked
when it is completed you can check the system with the following command
dism / online / cleanup-image / restorehealth

If there's no error found, windows should work properly first.

Also check if the virus database is up to date. As a rule, the program should find viruses. Since it also does heuristic analysis when the real-time protection is active.

TIP: Download only programs from the original pages and not from third-party providers

With the operating system Windows, the secure operation of a computer is not possible. So-called "virus scanners" have no effect on new pests.

If strangers control Windows this is not recognizable, as well as where the data flow.

Even professionals like the anti-virus specialist Dr. Solomon recommends using a secure operating system instead of Windows.

According to BSI, there are daily 380000 new Windows pest variants for Windows (Management Report 2016, page 16).

Linux Mint Cinnamon is also installed on an evening next to Windows, which can be any beginner. A key or virus scanner is not necessary, the OS is free and open source. The Bedinung is like W7, only the equipment with programs is significantly better than the lean equipped unfree Win.

So first, Windows is not the safest operating system. If you do not want to change your computer, I would recommend Linux Mint as the operating system. If you have enough money for it and you come with completely different operation than with Windows, I would recommend a MacBooc with preinstalled Mac OS. Second, I did not have very good experiences with Avira. Try it with Super Anti Spyware. That's free, but better.
