Lately my browser (chrome) has stopped downloading on my laptop (windows 10), I'm trying to download a larger file of almost 1GB, but since it breaks every few minutes it doesn't work. In the past it always worked despite the bad internet and I don't know what to do now. I then tried it in another browser (Opera), but the download always starts again. I also always update it directly when one is available. What can that be?

When downloading, it is generally advisable to use a download manager like https://winfuture.de/...,2935.html. This is especially true for larger files like in your case. The main advantage of a download manager is that you can pause some downloads and continue them at a later time.
Pausing and resuming later does not work everywhere and is partly dependent on the host. A download manager is nevertheless recommended and all times better than a direct download via a web browser. Especially since you can also perform other operations in a download manager - e.g. Automatically unpack archives when the download is complete.
