Laptop screen after closing suddenly quite bright?

When I close my laptop but do not turn it off, but set power mode or simply shut it down, it sometimes happens that the display suddenly turns very bright. I can't darken the brightness on the keyboard or in the menu, and then I have to restart the laptop, because it is just too bright and fades.

Who has an idea why that is? How can I avoid this or make the display thinner without having to restart it?
