Why is my old laptop working again?

I spilled orange juice on my laptop about 2.5 years ago, after which it was defective. Nothing worked anymore, he was practically dead.
Today I picked it out again, turned it on and for some reason it works completely again, only relatively slowly…
I'm overwhelmed, is it possible that a defective laptop will suddenly work again after 2 years?

Technology, it was the same with my laptop when my brother poured iced tea on it, after a few years it worked again. I don't know why ¯ \ _ (ツ) _ / ¯

Sure, if the components have not short-circuited e.g.

The orange juice is now dry.

do

Presumably the orange juice was not really dry at that time and possibly electrically conductive, so that there were problems. Today, when it is dry, there may no longer be any short circuits or leakage currents…

At least yours works again, mine kept running after tea ran over it… Until at some point he no longer wanted to recognize the MSATA SSD (it is still running in another notebook)

Well, water isn't dangerous for the hardware itself either.
The danger is the electrical conductivity, so when everything is completely dry, nothing conducts anymore.

Of course, that is not all, e.g. The water and also the O-juice can leave residues, which in turn can establish electrical contact. But I only know that from stories, I've never experienced it.

Of course, such a short circuit is not a good thing, but most of the components in the PC work with such low voltages that nothing really breaks. The short circuit may result in an error such that the PC will not start or crash, but nothing will be permanently damaged.

But that doesn't apply to everything either, e.g. If there are higher voltages in the power supply and a short circuit can permanently damage the PCB or components involved or maybe even cause a fire. The latter is unlikely, since everything switches off beforehand, but not impossible.

If you have the necessary know-how and skill and have suitable tools, you can or should open your notebook and clean the inside. For this purpose, pure (99.9%) isopropanol is the agent of choice, it does not attack the plastic, cleans well and dries without leaving any residue. It's available for little money at Amazon, just tip over it and clean it with a soft toothbrush. But first open the window and don't breathe in too deeply.
