Internet Explorer can no longer download files?

There was a power failure in our block, which of course shut down my PC in full operation. While my laptop is undamaged, my PC seems to have been damaged.

It has Windows 7 Pro, 32 bit and Internet Explorer 11 as a browser.

So now I can no longer download any files with IE, no matter what, no matter from which site. Surfing is as usual. Only I can download nothing, neither execute nor save.

Get the error message that the file could not be downloaded. Then my IE jumps off with the message that it has to be ended due to an error (no further explanation) and the IE closes automatically. (it does not restart itself)

have already tried sfc / scannow. It came out that some files could not be repaired. I reset the IE and had the hard disk checked for errors (nothing came out)

What else can I try?

Ma

I would say download and reinstall IE
Microsoft doesn't like to give it out anymore, but you can still find it
Here the 32 bit version

Boah, thank you. Yes, Microsoft is more releasing the Edge for Windows 7. I will download it with my laptop and send it to the PC (since it can't download itself) Hopefully it works after the installation and the problem does not sit deeper.

Ma

I wish you success!

I would switch to chrome according to my knowledge there should also be for win 7 ^^ Is twice as good

You go online with an operating system and a browser, both of which have no longer to be found there.

This fact alone could have made all sorts of things happen to you, causing problems.

In short: use at least Windows 8 or higher, Linux and a modern browser.
In addition a good security software and then you would have already fulfilled all conditions to be able to check whether something else might be defective.

Um… IE11 is still available as a usable browser even in Windows 10.

And as I said, everything went fine until the power cut, and then not. So no ominous attacks are to blame. Viruses and co were not found either. And I don't do online banking and co from my pc anyway.

There's no longer support for Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 11. However, you can still upgrade to Windows 10 for free if you have a valid Windows 7 license. This is how it works: https://www.chip.de/...05018.html Windows 10 has integrated the Edge browser. You can also install Google Chrome add-ons there.

It is also recommended that you create a Microsoft account. The Windows 10 activation is then saved there.

If you have to reinstall Windows 10, just log in again with your Microsoft account. Windows 10 will then be reactivated automatically. All your settings, such as Bookmarks are saved there.

If you then turn off the Windows 10 desktop effects, it even runs faster than Windows 7.

Then you can also install the apps from the Microsoft store. There you can find e.g. Ebay, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, netflix, maxdome, amazon and much more. You should always use the apps if possible.

ta

Yes, it is there to keep corporate apps running on intranets that still rely on them.
MS and all experts have been pointing out for years that the IE has security gaps and is not being further developed.

Apart from the fact that Windows 7 as such is too vulnerable to the Internet.

Electronics usually survive a normal power failure.
There are only two options in your scenario: Hardware defective due to wear - then the power failure would only be the last push.
Or: compromised operating system, which has a very high probability on your PC.

You have my recommendation.
If you don't want that, then of course that's your thing.
However, I consider the probability to be well over 90% that the advice of my respondents leads to nothing.

So… I'm kind of stuck. He didn't want to install IE11 just because I supposedly have a newer version. So only uninstalled via update history. I then had IE8. IE11 was included in the updates as optional, but did not want to be installed with an error message.

So first about updates to IE10. It went well and saving / downloading was possible. However, he did not want to install IE11 either via updates or manually (even after I loaded further updates for ie10). Always: could not be installed.

Now comes: after a restart I suddenly have IE11 but in English and I can't change it! He can't do a German installation because: "newer version available", I can't change it and where did the version come from - he called every installation a failure (is also in the update history)

and now comes the second. Also in the new, English IE11 I can't download and save or run, the same as before and it closes.

Well, I'm somehow cured of Windows 10 and would like to keep my Windows7. I put Win10 on the laptop and then I couldn't get rid of it and it runs bad. Edge always creates history, never keeps the settings and has open for a window 9 in the task manager and each time you have to allow the flash player again.

Win 10 is so heavy on me and just runs rough and slow, I have never had any other problems. Don't know what else to disable. And things start in the Task Manager even if you block their autostart - that's annoying. It's also not fun - because my online games lie this way and I can't even change my profile picture - without jokes, I've been trying to do that since I installed it. No saved, no photo (the only thing missing is that Microsoft writes: sorry too ugly) well but with the laptop it was necessary because I do online banking and co.

Ma

Have you installed from the usb stick?

Here, download IE11 again from Microsoft, but go in German and 32 bit!

https://support.microsoft.com/...-installer

ra

No, no USB stick. Via the Windows update function and otherwise from the hard disk. (and that should be the German version)

I will try again soon. But then probably have to uninstall everything again.

Ma

Yes, that's best, the snot has to go, there's also software that completely clears away.

For update ixh always took the update packs from winfuture, you can do practically all updates in one go.

Another option would be to install a Linux distribution. I recommend Bodhi Linux. This uses the extremely resource-saving Moksha desktop and only requires a fraction of the system resources that Windows 7 otherwise requires. You also have the option to use the latest Firefox. Here is the download: https://sourceforge.net/...o/download This is the current version 5.1 as 32bit.

After downloading, simply flash the ISO with this tool https://unetbootin.github.io/ onto an empty FAT32 formatted stick. Now you have a bootable stick. If you can't boot from USB, there's a solution for this too: The Plop Boot Manager. This is a boot CD that contains a USB boot loader. Here is the download: https://download.plop.at/files/bootmngr/plpbt-5.0.15.zip Unzip the zip and then burn the plpbt.iso with this tool http://www.freeisoburner.com/ onto an empty CD.

Plug in the stick, insert the burned CD and switch on the computer. Now simply boot from the CD. After a short time, the Plop boot loader appears. Select USB there. Then the stick is booted.

After a while the desktop appears. Here is an explanatory video on how to install it:

This is the instructions for version 5.0, the procedure is the same as for version 5.1. A restart is required after the installation is complete.

When the desktop reappears, go to the terminal. Enter the following commands there and complete with Enter:

sudo apt update -y
sudo apt upgrade -y
sudo apt install gdebi -y
sudo apt install synaptic -y
sudo apt install vlc -y
sudo apt install firefox -y

This will upgrade and install important packages. Including VLC and Firefox. During the upgrade, you may have to set up the keyboard layout again. Then select German.

The flash player should only be installed if you absolutely need it. To do this, enter the following in the terminal:

sudo apt install flashplugin-installer -y

This installs a script that always automatically downloads and installs the latest flash player from the Adobe site.

There's SoftMaker FreeOffice that is also available for Linux: https://www.freeoffice.com/de/ You need the 32bit deb package. After the download, simply install with a double click. This also adds an entry in the package management so that if new versions appear they can be updated via the Bodhi Linux package management.

With unattended upgrades you can completely automate the update so that it runs in the background.
