MacBook for industrial engineering studies?

Hi

I want to start studying industrial engineering this year. I would buy a MacBook Air or the latest generation for that. Anyone know whether such a laptop is useful for this study or whether a MacBook is suitable for simulation programs?

No, Apple is just incredibly expensive and more of a status symbol than practical. Most of the software you need for university is always for Windows and if you needed a different operating system that would be Linux. I finished my studies before Corona and I would have got by without a laptop at all, which is probably no longer possible at the moment.

Buy a 2-3 year old used laptop and save the money. At some point you will need it. Studying is more expensive. Should it become apparent in a few years that you need to upgrade your hardware, then you still have the option to buy the same Apple device for significantly less.

In addition, it's never cool if you sit in the library, for example, and walk away from the seat for a moment, then to have 1500 euro unattended on the table. The stress is not worth it.

Thank you for your opinion! My main concern is whether it would be worthwhile in terms of the programs that one would need, and Windows is probably much more relaxed because there's virtually everything for it.
